Signed a collaboration agreement between RNP and the Ministry of Health

A pilot project aims to connect 32 points of the Family Health Program to Ipê network

On December 14th, 2006, in Brasília, RNP and the Ministry of Health signed a collaboration agreement for the execution of a pilot project that will promote the network interconnection of the Family Health Program centers and points of health services. The estimated investment amounts to R$ 8.1 million in twelve months.

The pilot project comprises RNP’s services for the implementation of infrastructure, staff training and maintenance of distance collaboration applications network. The most outstanding objectives are: the connection with Ipê network, the infrastructure of the national education and research network operated by RNP and the 32 points of the Family Health Program for the assessment of the expected performance and applications based on the Telematic and Telemedicine Project to Support the Primary Attention to Health in Brazil; the implementation of broadband for videoconferencing and IP telephony in the QualiSUS system units; staff training in management and network security as well as videoconferencing services; and the linking of Datasus to Ipê network.

The collaboration agreement resulted from the approximation between RNP and the Ministry of Health during the launching of Rute Project - Telemedicine University Network - in April. This event led to the signature of a protocol of intentions for the development of joint actions that should integrate the Ministry of Health with the Interministerial Program of Maintenance and Development of the National Network of Teaching and Research, which took place on October 23rd.

The Interministerial Program was created in October, 1999 by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education in order to guarantee the operation development of the Brazilian academic network, which currently interconnects around 300 institutions in the whole country, benefiting over one million users, mostly researchers, professors and university students. The integration of the Ministry of Health follows the orientation of RNP Steering Committee, formed to coordinate the Interministerial Program, the incorporation of other ministries through pilot projects on education, research and innovation.
