SUNNYVALE, Calif., September 26, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) today announced that the Brazilian National Research and Education Network (RNP) has again expanded the speed and capacity of its network backbone with Juniper Networks M-series routers. RNP's telecommunications infrastructure supports a nationwide IP academic network, enabling communications and the sharing of advanced applications and large research files among over 300 education and research institutions.

'Our network provides advanced applications and services, enabling collaboration between more than 300 user institutions Brazilian research institutes and universities,' said Ari Frazao Jr., RNP manager of the Engineering and Operations Center, 'Our users are now able to conduct their research enabled by a world-class network infrastructure that takes advantage of technologies such as IPv6 and Multicasting to efficiently transport high-bandwidth applications and files-essential tools for information exchange within the academic and scientific worlds.'

RNP's network employs advanced infrastructure for communication and collaboration, between educational institutions-including federal universities and research entities from the Education and Sciences and Technology Ministries-in the 26 states and the capital of the country, Brasmlia. The network also acts as a test network for the development of new applications and network services, such as videoconferencing and VoIP.

RNP had previously deployed Juniper Networks M320 and M40e platforms throughout its large, core points of presence (PoPs), and with this deployment is now expanding with M10i and M7i routers at smaller regional PoPs. The new platforms will increase the performance, scalability and reliability at the regional sites, and operate under the same JUNOS operating system as the core routers, simplifying management and enabling RNP to reduce operational expenses.

'This new deployment enables RNP to expand the range and reach of their academic network, while maintaining a consistent operating system throughout, keeping operational costs at minimum,' said Davi Caproni, country manager for Juniper Networks in Brazil. 'RNP serves an essential mission by facilitating the exchange of data among academics and researchers, and Juniper is dedicated to delivering the technologies that enable research and education networks like RNP operate with the same levels of performance and reliability as the world's largest service provider networks.'

Juniper Networks M-series multiservice edge routing portfolio combines best-in-class IP/MPLS capabilities with unmatched reliability, stability, security, and service richness to minimize operational and capital costs. These multiservice edge routing platforms allow organizations to consolidate multiple networks onto a single IP/MPLS infrastructure. The M-series use a hardware-based approach combined with the highly scalable, secure, and reliable JUNOS software, which enables customers to support multiple services without compromise on a single IP/MPLS platform.
