![]() | Brazil, Argentina and Chile study solutions to e-mail securityProject was selected by regional fund for digital innovation The academic networks in Brazil (RNP), Chile (Reuna) and Argentina (Retina) have managed to approve, together with the Regional Fund for Digital Innovation in the Americas and the Caribbean (Frida), the project “Communication Security: Quality Platform in E-Mail Services.” On RNP’s side, three analysts from the Security Incident Report Team (CAIS) were directly involved. The project, which counts on the support of Rediris, the Spanish academic network, is open to the participation of other networks, especially the ones integrating the Latin American Cooperation on Advanced Networks (Clara). This year, 14 out of the 357 proposals submitted by various countries were selected. These proposals will have a total budget of US$ 174,000. The aim of the project is to define a collaboration platform which permits improving e-mail quality in the Latin American academic community. The plans include installing collaborative work tools, establishing a model of service evaluation, and assessing implantation strategies of sensor models working together in network for security problems. The use of new protocols, such as the SPF (Sender Policy Framework), is also studied as well as the definition of a model of IPv6 traffic exchange. Besides participating in the e-mail security project, Brazil leads three other projects: Classification of Free Educational Software; Techno-Social Networks and Democratic City Management; and Development of Java Plug-in for Tomographic Reconstruction and Visualization in Nuclear Medicine.
