CNPq, RNP and SocInfo request projects on applications for advanced networks

On November 22nd, CNPq's site released a public notice looking for projects on applications for high performance networks. Its aim is financing projects of technology application, development and research on advanced networks so as to promote the national development of products, applications, knowledge and professional qualification in high performance networks, ensuring service quality.

This notice complements the call for project proposals on digital issues, also released on Monday. With these initiatives, the Ministry of Science and Technology, CNPq/ProTeM, RNP and the Information Society Program intend to stimulate projects in the fields of advanced Internet applications and technologies for the development and research of digital issues.

RNP actively participates in the public notice "Information and Communication Technology, Products and Services Applied to Advanced Networks" by offering connectivity through RNP2 backbone and the High Performance Metropolitan Networks (ReMAVs). RNP will also be giving support in terms of service quality (SQ) and, eventually, other pilot projects.

The proposals presented to this notice must refer to at least one of the following technological areas: end-to-end service quality; security; digital video; technologies which facilitate cooperative work; and middleware. The projects must be sent to CNPq no later than November14th, 2001, by means of an electronic form.

Both higher education or research institutes (HERI) and private enterprises can participate in the notice. The consortia will necessarily be coordinated by a member of a HERI. The CNPq has reserved R$ 3 million, which will be shared in quotas ranging from R$ 250,000 to R$ 500,000. Depending on the availability of resources and the needs of the consortium, additional resources can be made available in the form of commutation and transmission equipment. Extra information can be obtained by calling CNPq's Information Center ( 0800-61-9697 ) or by writing to the e-mail atendimento@cnpq.br. The notice is available on http://www.cnpq.br/servicos/editais/ct/redeavan.htm.
