Connection to Internet2 covered by RNP News

The connection of RNP2 backbone to the North American Internet2 network is the highlight of the September issue of RNP News. The integration with the Internet2 was made in August 2001 through a 45 Mbps link lent by Global Crossing as part of the Americas Path Network (AMPATH) project. Still in relation to RNP2, the newsletter informs its readers that RNP's Steering Committee has approved the terms of the Policy of Acceptable Use of the backbone, another relevant fact in managing the Brazilian academic network.

Other articles that are worth of note are the ones about RNP's IPv6 pilot network, which will operate with the new IPv6 production addresses received by the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), and the one about the telemedicine experiment involving the ReMAVs in Recife, Natal and Fortaleza. In this experiment, pioneer in Brazil, medical staffs in the three capitals in the northeast of Brazil interacted by means of RNP's network and used a telediagnosis tool created with national technology. The newsletter also covers RNP's participation in OptiGlobe's point of traffic exchange, in São Paulo; the access policy to ntp1.rnp.br, RNP's Network Time Protocol server; and the release of the rnp-release list in order to make public information which is relevant to the press.

RNP News is printed trimestrally and distributed free of charge. The growing number of readers of this publication has been responsible for an increased readership, which exceeded 3,200 copies in the September issue. It is the second time in one and a half years of existence that the number of copies of RNP News had to be increased.
