Through its Security Incident Response Team (CAIS), RNP has implanted a Network Time Protocol (NTP) stratum 1 server in its Point of Presence in Brasília (PoP-DF). The service, offered by RNP since July 2000, is directly connected to a reference clock, a very high precision mechanism. The reference clock used is a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver. A hierarchy of NTP servers was established from the PoP-DF. This hierarchy has the function of distributing the processing load, ensuring a stabler and more reliable service to the final user.
