Result of the bid for cooperative projects on advanced networks

Projects approved in the "Information and Communication Technology, Products and Services, Applied to Advanced Networks" bid, launched by CNPq/ProTeM on October 22nd,2001 together with RNP.

More information about initiatives on advanced networks can be found in the topic Advanced network projects in the field of Research and Development (projetos de redes avançadas), in RNP's site.

Infravida (Infralife)

Digital Video infrastructure for Tele medicine Applications

coordinator:
Carlos André Guimarães Ferraz
Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE
participants:
UFPE, UFBA, UFRN, UNIFACS and Real Hospital Português

Its major aim is developing an Internet-based telediagnosis system integrating OpenH323 to HealthNet and DynaVideo systems, developed by UFPE and UFRN, respectively. The INFRAVIDA is being adapted so as to serve most medical specialties.

QoSWare

QoS Management in Middleware for Real Time Applications

coordinator:
Djamel Fawzi Hadj Sadok
Computer Science Department - UFPE
participants:
UFPE, UFMG and Telemar

Its major goal is evaluating the behavior of advanced network applications with support to the quality of service (QoS), using Differentiated Services (DiffServ) in RNP2. New frameworks will be tested in which the QoS level can be directly controlled by the final user. With QoSWare, the application will have control over the network, deciding, for instance, the package size and other important parameters for the optimization of end-to-end services.

MAPPED

Adaptation and Control Mechanisms for Multimedia Recovery and Transmission Applied to the Distance High Education Center in Rio de Janeiro

coordinator:
Edmundo Albuquerque de Souza e Silva
Systems Engineering Program - UFRJ
participants:
UFRJ, UFF, UFMG, CEDERJ and SEMEAR.COM

Its major goal is developing and incorporating new end-to-end adaptation techniques to give more efficiency and flexibility to multimedia applications, so that they can adapt to a highly heterogeneous network environment.

I2TV

Internet2 Infrastructure for the Development and Testing of Programs and Tools for Interactive TV

coordinator:
Guido Lemos de Souza Filho
Department of Computer Science and Applied Math - UFRN
participants:
UFRN, PUC-RJ, USP-SP, UFSC, TVU-RN, TVE-RJ, TV Cultura-SP and TV Cultura-SC

Its major aim is the development of technology for broadband interactive video applications, especially interactive TV. The project includes from content generation to the transmission of interactive TV programs considering QoS parameters.

IQoM

Infra-structure to Measure the QoS and Implantation of Differentiated Services

coordinator:
José Augusto Suruagy Monteiro
University of Salvador - UNIFACS
participants:
UNIFACS, UFRGS, UFSC, UFPR, CPqD and University College London – UCL

METROPOA2

Grande Porto Alegre Metropolitan Network - phase 2

coordinator:
Liane Margarida Rockenbach Tarouco
Computer Science in Education Post-Graduation Course - UFRGS
participants:
UFRGS, CRT, PROCERGS, UNISINOS, PUC-RS and PROCEMPA

Its major aim is improving the educational level of the population through the use of new technologies with the support of computer networks. The project will create virtual environments that facilitate the interaction and the cooperative work among remotely located people. The Metropoa2 project will also be concerned with the so-called last mile, aiming at accessibility to the whole population.

Quaresma

Quality of service in Networks - Security, Mobility and Applications

coordinator:
Otto Carlos Muniz Bandeira Duarte
Electrical Engineering Program - UFRJ
participants:
UFRJ, DCC/Unicamp, FEEC/Unicamp, UFF, Université Paris VI and NETCENTER

Its major goal is producing a comprehensive study about the different models of service proposed for the implantation of QoS in the Internet. The Quaresma project shall propose new techniques to dimension Internet links.

ED-REMAV

Development of Support Applications and Technologies for Distance Education in the ReMAV - Curitiba

coordinator:
Roberto Cesar Betini
Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná - PUC/PR
participants:
PUC-PR, CEFET-PR, CITS and UFPR

Its major goal is developing pre-commercial distance education applications, through the Web, to be run in the infra-structure of the High Performance Metropolitan Network in Curitiba. The project will also propose effective and reliable network monitoring mechanisms, as well as support tools to ensure the QoS, telemeasurement and platform integration.
