RNP's multigigabit backbone

RNP’s backbone was designed to meet the technical demands of advanced applications. There are 27 points of presence (PoPs) installed in the main cities and capitals in the country. The speed of the connections among the PoPs is up to 622 Mbps, ensuring the necessary bandwidth for the production Internet traffic (Web navigation, e-mail, file transference); for the use of advanced applications and services; and for experimentation.

RNP has two international connections of its own. One of them, of 155 Mbps, is used for the Internet production traffic. The other, also of 155 Mbps, is connected to Clara Network, the advanced Latin American network. Through Clara, RNP is connected to other advanced networks worldwide, such as Géant, the European network, and the North American Internet2.

The backbone interconnects all the High Performance Metropolitan Networks, Federal Institutions of Higher Education, research units and agencies of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education, besides other public and private education and research institutions.
