The Ministry of Science
and Technology (MCT) and the National Council for Scientific Research
and Technological Development (CNPq), through the National Research Network
(RNP) and the Theme-Oriented Research and Development Program in Computer
Science (ProTeM-CC) are pleased to invite you to participate in the "RNP2:
The Brazilian Internet2 Infrastructure", to be held at the Bourbon Hotel
in Curitiba, on the 12th and 13th of May, 1999.
The RNP2 Workshop will discuss the state-of-the-art and recent developments
related to the Brazilian Internet2 initiative. Moreover, the workshop
intends to gather representatives from the eleven High-Performance Metropolitan
Area consortia (REMAVs), IT companies and networking industry, traditional
telecommunications operators, emerging telecommunication companies and
government representatives, in order to make presentations, discuss their
plans, projects, business strategies and look for opportunities to promote
collaboration and partnerships. The workshop will also supply strategic
information for the MCT's plans towards the next stage of the RNP2 project,
as well as the whole Brazilian Information Society initiative.
The opening ceremony will be addressed by the Minister for Science and
Technology, and will be attended by authorities from several Government's
bodies and agencies. It is being also planned presentations from invited
speakers from the US and Canada high-performance Internet projects.
The event's two-day program was structured in order to promote interactions
among speakers and attendees, and includes presentations of the REMAV
consortia representatives and of several invited companies.
The presentations of the REMAV consortia will cover aspects such as:
- consortium composition;
- consortium structure,
partnerships and benefits for each partner;
- current and future
applications and test-bed experiments;
- expectations and
suggestions for next steps (taking into account the expansion of the
initiative in the regional and national level).
The presentations
of the invited companies should cover:
- current status
and future plans related to high-performance networking services and
infrastructure;
- current status
and plans for the development and deployment of high-performance networking
technologies and applications (including what is being done in the US
and Brazil);
- business strategies
of the companies, towards the participation in the high-performance
networking market as well as collaboration with government's initiatives;
- opportunities
to promote partnerships with the academic sector under the RNP2 initiative;
- expectations and
suggestions for the next steps (taking into account the expansion of
the MCT networking initiatives at the regional and national levels).
The "RNP2: The Brazilian
Internet2 Infrastructure" workshop will be a great opportunity for the
industry and the telecommunications companies to join with the REMAV consortia
and the RNP to establish contacts for potential partnerships.
The seminar will be free of charge for a limited number of attendees,
and it will include coffee-breaks, lunch and a cocktail.
