AsRNP

The Association National Education and Research Network (AsRNP) is non-profit civil society of private right and public interest whose mission is to promote the innovative use of advanced networks in Brazil. The creation of the AsRNP made it possible to institutionalize the original RNP project, devised by the CNPq – Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico in 1989, and which implanted the basis of the high performance infrastructure that now serves hundreds of Brazilian teaching and research institutions.

In January 2002, the AsRNP was qualified by the federal government as a Social Organization (OS). In March 2002 it signed a steering contract with the Ministry of Science and Technology (MCT) with the aim of fostering activities of technological research in development networks and operating advanced network means and services.

AsRNP’s Administration Council

The Administrative Council is the AsRNP’s higher deliberation and management body. It is made up of representatives from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education; the Brazilian Computing Society (SBC); the Laboratory of Architecture and Computer Networks (LARC); RNP’s Points of Presence; its members, and users. This composition follows the orientation of the Law of Social Organizations, which determines that these collegiate bodies have the participation of representatives of the public sector, civil society organizations, members and users.

Mission: Promoting the innovative use of advanced networks in Brazil

The continuous innovation in networks and their applications produces great transformations in the construction of the future. Besides providing connectivity, the AsRNP makes it possible for people and resources distant from one another to interact, permitting the development of new applications and network protocols, with great benefits to the public in fields such as education and health.

Today, the AsRNP plays a central role in the promotion of new development cycles in the Internet in Brazil, constituting an institution with competence in the fields of network engineering (development, project, implantation, operation, security, support, services, consulting), information management and computer science. As an enterprise, the AsRNP wants to consolidate its leadership in advanced networks, conquered in over 10 years of academic network history.
