Dataprev joins FIX

Traffic Exchange Point increases speed and improves operational quality

On March 30th, the Empresa de Tecnologia e Informações da Previdência Social (Dataprev) (Technology and Information Company of the Brazilian Social Security System)joined the Federal Network Interconnection Point (FIX), a Traffic Exchange Point (PTT) coordinated by the Rede Nacional de Ensino e Pesquisa (RNP), which makes the direct interconnection between the networks that make up Brazilian internet.

Created in 2002 and since 2004 part of the PTTMetro Project of the Comitê Gestor da Internet no Brasil (Managing Committee of Internet in Brazil(CGI.br), FIX / PTTMetro of Brasília allows users to leave their own networks and access commercial, government, educational and research websites.

“The connection was established with a capacity of 1 Gbps, in the mode of the Multilateral Traffic Exchange Agreement (ATM), which means that Dataprev will be able to Exchange traffic not only with RNp’s Ipê network but with all the networks that are part of FIX and which also have the same type of agreement, directly benefitting their users”, says associate director of RNP Service Management and FIX/Brasília PTTMetro coordinator, Antônio Carlos Fernandes Nunes.

Joining FIX increases speed and improves operational quality. In other words, the greater the number of regional PTT’s, the shorter will be the path to exchange traffic and greater the operational efficiency.

Direct interconnection of networks also increases and encourages data exchange and reduces cost, with technical issues solved locally, at a neutral point.

In addition of Dataprev and RNP, also participating in FIX are the networks for Serpro, Ministério da Saúde (Ministry of Health), Intelig, GVT and Oi.
